A Sweeter Place ~ Girsa | My first CD cover!

Anyone who knows me well, knows what a passion I have for music.  Before I had kids, I had the distinct pleasure of shooting my true love…live music.  Live music has always fed my soul and being able to shoot a wide array of concert photography in New York City in the late 90′s was an indescribable thrill.   When my kids came along, I thought the better of running off to concert halls after dinner, so that career fell to the wayside and was replaced by children’s portraiture ~ as much a thrill for me as music.  One of these days, I’ll dust off my slides and share some favorites…

Needless to say when the opportunity to shoot a cd cover for a band presented itself, I jumped!  High!  I am extremely pleased to present my first CD cover…

Meet Girsa ~ eight beautiful and talented young women who play traditional Irish music.  Fun, energetic and down to earth, they were a delight to work with.  From our first concept meeting to the final session, these women were filled with enthusiasm and humor…and I love that!  Not to mention, they didn’t mind trudging through thigh-high wheat fields with their instruments in tow. But the best part for me was the impromptu jam session in the field while I was setting up my shots.  Picture listening to the lively and joyful sounds of Irish music in a beautiful sun-kissed wheat field.  Spectacular!

Girsa performs internationally, with a variety of nationwide tour dates this summer.  And tonight they’ll be at Connolly’s on 45th in NYC!  Check em out and let them take you to “A Sweeter Place.”

Fun with Four… | NJ Children’s Photographer | Bergen County New Jersey

I love that I get to encourage laughing on the job!  It doesn’t always work, but it certainly did for this session.  These four kids were awesome…they were engaging, interesting, and just delightful.  They laughed easily, especially the girls, which not only makes my job easier but more fun.  And I’m all about fun on the job.  These portraits are a surprise Father’s Day gift from their mom to their dad and I just love that idea.

It’s always fun for me to try to capture each child’s unique beauty and I think you can see the different personalities shining through in these images…

Brand New… | NJ Newborn Photographer | Morris County New Jersey

Six days young, this brand new little one was tiny and precious.  I kept marveling at his perfect features…they truly were.  He seemed a good sleeper too, so I thought I’d use the latest in my never-ending search for cool newborn props…a beautifully crafted wooden chair.  I love it – and I think he looks downright comfy in it too.  Look at his little smile.  He stayed peaceful and sleepy for the whole session…looking angelic in the different wraps and cocoons, but I just love how he looks in his daddy’s arms in the black and whites below.  And I daresay the last shot would bring a smile to almost anyone’s face.  Take a look and see…

All the Rave…Olea Clothing Store | Montclair New Jersey

comment here

Last week, I attended a party for a fantastic new clothing store and I have to rave about it – it’s called Olea and it just opened in Montclair, NJ. Olea is a contemporary clothing store for both women and children. The clothes are fun, flattering and fabulous and include dresses, jeans, tops, handbags, scarves, jewelry and more.  Owners Lori and Jae Bae have managed to keep prices reasonable while maintaining quality.  In their own words, “Affordability, accessibility and quality embody Olea brand products.”   And they deliver on that promise.

The store’s interior is beautifully designed with a modern, streamlined look that makes shopping easy and inviting.  Have the kids in tow?  No problem.  Not only do they sell great clothing for babies and kids, but they have a play area to occupy them while you browse.   The Baes are also very involved in giving back to the community and they have some generous plans on the horizon.  It’s always so inspiring to see that.  I’ll be sure to keep you all posted on what they’re up to…not only because Lori and Jae are friends, but because I think their store and it’s products are worth raving about!

Next time you’re in the Montclair area, I highly recommend you stop by Olea.  Better yet, make a special trip – it’s worth it!
